Future of the Earth

Do you care about the place where you live? Many people don't even know if they are caring or not because they're just living their life and only care the things they can see. Majority of the population are living in countries with developed technology, electricity, and skills. People who live in these countries have at least 1 car individually and ride them. They can't live without their cars because they are used to it. Moreover, they use and waste electricity and water not thinking about the other parts of the world where it does not have electricity to light up, warm themselves, enjoy their leisure, and water to drink. They do not know how much fossil fuel and resources they are using and wasting. Many people are chopping trees down for making papers, tissues, wood products, and etc. Doing this actions is ruining our planet EARTH. See the picture next to this. What Planet does it look better to live? A broken and bad conditioned Earth or a clean and good conditioned Earth? The resources that we could use is not artificial. Which means the nature gave it to us. Fossil fuel is created after few millions of years have passed from the time animals and plants died. It takes more than few hundred years for the trees to grow perfectly big and create a large forest. Water flowed for the whole time to be filtered and create lakes, rivers, oceans, and etc. We have wasted and overused the amount of resources that nature provided that we are running out of those resources.

Then how should we figure this problem out? What will be the best way to solve this problem and also save the Earth? Check this workshop to figure out the way and how to solve this serious problem to prevent worse things happen in the future.

Unit 4 Reflection Name Ashley Lee Global Issues Reflection
  • Enduring Understanding: Responsible choices are part of being a global citizen.
  • Essential Question: How does one participate in global citizenship and why is it important?
  1. Based upon your prior knowledge and current studies develop a response to the essential question that includes topic sentences and details with examples. Place your response below using as much space as you need to form a complete answer.
People participate in global citizenship in many various ways. Global citizens are the people who care, know, and understand the difficulties, hardships, and global issues of the World. Participating in global citizenship is important. It is important because participating in global citizenship makes people care, know, and understand the global issues. Global citizens follows the law, tries to save our planet Earth, save our environment, invent things to develop the world, care, save, protect animals, help the poor, and take risks and challenge things that they think it was the limit for them. This makes them be in one of the global issues that are happening. Global issues are global warming, dying environment, animal extinction and rights, pollution, illiteracy, child labor, diseases, terrorism, and running out of natural resources. People who tries to save, prevent and help these problems are caring, knowing, and understanding what is happening in the world to solve this out to make a better world. As more people participates, more it gets better, solved faster, and better the Earth turns out. For example, when almost every people participates in global citizenship, they all get to care, know, understand, and help to solve this animal’s extinction and rights, the animals will have better life, no species will extinct, and it will be solved faster than 10,000 people helping but 100,000,000 people helping.
  1. Tomorrow you will be presenting the research process to grade 5 students. You will need to explain the purpose of our studies. Think about your learning and make a list of those things that you discovered to be useful to you as a researcher/learner.

Books:

  • external image green-energy-crucial-gains-or-economic-strains-matt-doeden-book-cover-art.jpg I like this book because this gives whole bunch of information of renewable energy. It also shows the history of using energy and how it developed to the non renewable energy usage, about nuclear power but the waste of it, how the solar panel works, examples of using sunlight and heat, how wind power works, how the wind turbine works, benefits of wind power, biomass, bio fuel and more of other sources. I think this helps by giving information to my topic renewable resources by supporting details of each one of it.
  • external image 51b0TV3dOqL._SL500_AA300_.jpg I chose this book because it has information of renewable sources and it gives help by detailed information kinds of energy that is relating of the major energy, and about each renewable energy and problems and benefits of it. It also shows charts, diagrams, and pictures to make better understanding.

Excerpts:

This site shows about the kinds of energy sources that are renewable and could be used for the future. It explains well about each energy source. This gives me help for the information of energy sources.
Quotes:
"Solar power is another renewable, or perpetual, energy source. (Kaufman and Franz, 1993, 232). It is agood option because there is an unlimited supply of this energy source, and it is available all over the world and not just in certain locations and deposits. It is nonpolluting and it could be implemented basically anywhere."
This site shows amount of electricity is generated by fuels. As you could see the amount of usage of oil is a little because it is running out. Still this shows we can't 100% rely on renewable resources because the amount isneeded greater than other sources and it is not powerfully effective.

  • external image 2-renewable-resources.jpg The picture beside shows how much renewable resources are available in US.
This one describes well how much wind, sun, heat, and biomass is located to use for renewable resource. Because renewable resources are resources made by nature which is everlasting, this shows that we can nowuse these resources when we develop the devices to work this out.

I chose this site because it lists the kinds of renewable and non renewable resources to compare and contrast. It gives a slight, short paragraph about which means renewable resource and non renewable resources.

  • external image ratio.jpg The chart (diagram) of the ration of renewable resources that exists and could be used.
This diagram explains well how much renewable resources could be used. I realized that solar power isn't that effective because it doesn't have sun in evening.

Videos:

I've chose this video clip because this person, Bill Gates, who is known very well explained about the energy problems. He explained how the energy usage should be in the future to remain the Earth we can see know. He explains and shows the problems of the world energy. He also says about miracles that has to happen in energy to make an efficient use of those renewable resources and energy. So I think this was a good link.
